The majority of my time at Polk has been at the Tesla Gigafactory, where my responsibilities have taken on that of a Project Managers (amongst others.) Here, in collaboration with Tesla's engineers, construction managers, and facilities and maintenance crews, I provide longitudinal and latitudinal loads of complex piping systems and their supports, analyze parts and assemblies to determine the best method of fabrication and system integration into existing Tesla piping and plumbing, I inspect and quote work, ensure we are operating within Tesla's specifications, and testing accordingly as well, and a number of other tasks for a range of 50-70 projects, ranging from $10,000,000 - $30,000 contract value.
My work revolves mainly around 2 main taks:
1.) Ensure the ongoing work is built according to required material specifications, and Tesla standards. Due to the size and quantity of projects onsite, it is not uncommon for Tesla engineers and architects to overlook system requirements or better system integration. As an example for scope DCR-2569 (a process heating and low temp chilled water copper system,) we suggested the high point valves be relocated to another area.
2.). Ensure the work being done is done according to schedule. Often, this can be as simple as ordering material, but sometimes more drastic solutions are required. In scope DCRT-2249 (a stainless steel process system) we suggested the system be completely built outside of the building into final tie-in welds, in order to reduce time of fabrication. For scope DC2-0501, it was suggested we use the existing supports and strut since it far surpassed the technical specification (weight load) required for the pipe system.
